Summer 2016 Newsletter

July 6, 2016 by Mark Taylor

This is an extra newsletter this summer due to so much going on. We are well into the flow of things here.  The weather is hot, hot, hot and the resort is busy, busy, busy!! We are almost fully booked for the summer with 3 or 4 rooms still available in August and  various options after the 16th September, so you still have a chance for a summer break if you have not booked already.

I have just returned from an amazing sailing week around the Ionian Islands on board our stunning 40ft Catamaran. The weather set us a few challenges with strong winds on the first four days which sent us speeding along at 8 knots (great fun) and then the last three days we had not a breath of wind. Well that’s sailing for you!

Survey

As you may have found in the past, getting a booking at Vassaliki during the busy months of June, July and September can sometimes be a problem due to the popularity of the resort. 2017 is not going to be any different with June and July next summer already nearing 70% full.

So we are looking at maybe expanding our resort, nothing finalised yet.  Don’t panic we are not turning it into a 200 bed resort!!! We have the opportunity to add a further 4 or 5 units on the adjoining piece of land next to Vassaliki. The plans are being drawn up as we speak and we are in discussions as to what we need to do to the pool bar area and other services to be able to cope with the extra 8/10 people.

online-survey

But we need your help!! We have a survey which asks about various aspects of our resort. If you could spare just 10 minutes to answer the questions for us it would really help us create the perfect space and facilities for you our guest. If you follow the link below we would really appreciate your help. Your answers are confidential and we don’t ask for your name or details.

Summer 2017 flights

easyjet

I know some of you have not even had your 2016 holiday yet but the charter flight companies like Jet2, Thomas Cook, Thomson & Norwegian Airlines have just announced their flight schedules and prices for Summer 2017.  We are still waiting for the budget airlines Easyjet and Ryanair to launch and we don’t expect these until later in the year (September ish.)

I have had a quick search for June and July 2017 and have seen London Gatwick to Kefalonia with Norwegian at about £100 each way and similar priced flights from Manchester with Jet 2.

Jobs for summer 2017

We are very sad to have to announce that Simon and Sheryle are considering retiring full time and moving back to their new house in Spain. Simon and Sheyle have been a huge asset to our company for the last four years and were also a big part of setting up the company 10 years ago. They will be very much missed by both us and our guests.

800_6311-websize

This does however leave us with a big hole in our team for the summer 2017 which needs to be filled. We are looking for either a couple or two individuals to join our team from the beginning of April to the end of September 2017.

We are looking for people with multiple skills and a never ending source of energy who want a change of lifestyle. This is not a 9 to 5 job and some days the hours can be very long. You are required to work in very hot conditions but you do get to do some of your jobs naked!!

The jobs require cleaning, food service, meet and greet, pool and resort maintenance, minibus driving, food shopping, gardening and much more. You must be flexible and able to turn your hand to any job that needs to be done. We would prefer someone with an idea of all household maintenance and be physically fit to carry loads and do lawn mowing and gardening. The other job is more based around food service with some experience of preparing food for large numbers of people is an advantage. But most of all a huge amount of enthusiasm to give our customers the very best service.

All these jobs need to be done on a daily basis and must be completed with a smile on your face. The rewards are endless… working in a hot cloths free environment, use of resort facilities, running group meals out and boat excursions. We offer a salary with holiday pay which is paid through the UK PAYE system. We will help you find accommodation or you can bring your own camper or caravan which can be pitched onsite (we can supply an electric and water supply). You will get meals on Meze night and BBQ night but all your other meals are not included.

If you are looking for a new career this is not the job for you!! If you want a completely different lifestyle and are happy to work hard then this is the opportunity you have been waiting for.

If you are interested please email us your CV with a cover letter explaining why you wish to change your lifestyle. Interviews will be held at the end of the year in the UK.

May 17, 2016 by Mark Taylor

Naturist girls on stairs to pool at Vassaliki Naturist Resort

4th and 5th of June this year is Women in Naturism weekend. This event is set up globally to encourage women of all ages to give naturism a try and to learn more about the positive benefits that naturism can offer. This includes reducing body image issues, gaining a feeling of freedom and comfort from swimming naked plus the benefits of sunbathing without a swim suit.

Vassaliki this year is joining the campaign with Samantha and Sheryle running a small cocktail party at Vassaliki for women only. Come and join them from 4pm to 6pm on Sunday 5th June and enjoy a free cocktail at our bar along with the opportunity to enjoy a swim in our pool and a soak in our beautiful hot tub without the burden of your swim suit. This event is open to all ages (alcohol free drink for under 18).

Please join Samantha and Sheryle who will be more than happy to discuss with you the naturist lifestyle. We promise you will not be forced to undress and will be left to try it at your own speed.

To reduce the number of men at the resort Mark will be offering a free cold can of beer at the naturist area of Avithos beach from 4pm to 6pm also on 5th June.

Sailing Dates

March 24, 2016 by Mark Taylor

With our sailing weeks becoming more and more popular each year and our 2016 sailing weeks fully booked, we have been asked to release our dates for 2017 Naturist Sailing Week.

So 17th June to 24th June 2017 (only one cabin left)

&

2nd September to 9th September 2017

Give us a call if you would like to join either of these trips next year. I have also included in this post an amazing article written by Arthur who I think captures the essence of our sailing trips

SAILING

Some things in life go together so well, and compliment each other so perfectly, you wonder if there has been some divine intervention at play.  Like strawberries and cream, sea and sand – and for us Naturism and Sailing. All these things have a sum that is greater than their two parts – they are perfect!  And sailing naked for us has been a truly ‘bucket-list’ activity.

 Sailing bay
We all know the absolute pleasures of skinny dipping.  This is often the first activity that seals it for most of us that we want all our holidays to be unclothed.  That feeling of freedom of swimming naked that is followed by the added bonus of no wet sticky clinging fabric that takes an age to dry.  So it is the same feeling once you go sailing – unclothed.  I have to be frank here – I am not talking about sailing to the Fastnet Rock, or in global latitudes that would freeze you solid.  Sailing where the sea is azure blue, the breeze is warm and dry, and that the sun shines from rising to setting are the kind of places to sail.  Then you have found perfect naturist sailing conditions.  The freedom of naturism marries perfectly with being blown by warm breezes freely over clear blue waters.

We discovered the very same perfect combination whilst staying at the beautifully maintained resort of Vassaliki Naturist Club, on Kefalonia, an island that is a jewel in the Ionian Sea. One of the excursions was for a day’s naturist yacht trip.  The trip sounded nice and our fellow holidaymakers spoke highly of their experiences.  With other guests from our resort we embarked on the stunning 38 foot yacht, ‘Ino’, out of Argostoli, a beautiful port on the south west corner of the island.  Even before fully leaving harbour we were seeing huge loggerhead turtles swimming just below the surface of the crystal clear waters.  That day we cut through gentle waves under the power of taught white sails to a deserted ‘tropical’ isle where we swam and snorkelled in crystal waters, and dined on simple greek cuisine and wines.  The simplicity of the whole day harmonised with everything we love about naturism.  We were hooked.  Sailing naked was in our blood.

So what do you do when you have discovered your love of this divine combination?  Well, our answer was to go sailing for longer. Day trips are an awesome fillip – but sailing naked for a week with a ‘crew’ of likeminded people becomes an apex in naturist holiday-making.  Once again we returned to Kefalonia and journeyed from our naturist resort base of Vassaliki to Fiskado in the north of the island where we boarded a 42 foot, six cabin luxury catamaran.  This magnificent sleekly double wedged piece of luxury marine boat building took us around the blue seas that divide Kefalonia, Lefkas, Ithaka and mainland Greece.  We sailed with our very able skipper Mark Taylor (owner of Vigla Natura), and his hardworking most amiable hostess Annie, and six other ‘crew’ (our fellow holidaying guests).  The popularity of this sailing week was evident with guests joining from the UK, Israel and South Africa. We sailed together to quaint traditional harbours, isolated white beached coves and across deep blue channels legendarily sailed by Jason and his Argonaughts.  We BBQ’d on curved marble white stone coves, snorkelled over tantalising green dancing sea grasses, and excitedly grabbed for our cameras when a pod of dolphins chose to chase their silver prey beneath the bows of our trusty two white hulls.  And not only are the days wonderful but the nights are beautiful – to sit up on deck, anchored in a far off cove with your fellow travellers, waxing lyrical as the heavens slowly spin above is a magical experience.  A week of this leaves the heart full and the spirit re-charged.

Special to naked sailing in the Ionian is that you share those resplendent waters with a special community of yacht loving transient neighbours.  Many are ahead of you in realising the joys of being naked on their well manicured sailing vessels.  It is not an infrequent occasion to see fellow sailors in naturist garb.  We’re back to that perfect combination again!  However, those evenings spent in port had to revert to traditional textile coverings, that were only to be cast aside moments after sailing away from those old quaint sailing refuges.

Those long warm June days spent on the Ionian Sea, shared with fascinating people who had travelled from around the world to be there, gave us an appreciation of the feeling of freedom and accord that we have only truly experienced with sailing naked.  We had felt warm winds blow over us.  We had swam in waters that can only be reached by boat.  We had travelled with people who like kindred spirits had made that discovery that sailing and naturism are a very special combination – one of those experiences that every person who is comfortable in their own skin should really add to their ‘bucket-list’.

Holidays in Greece

March 22, 2016 by Mark Taylor

Another year has rolled by and once again Greece appears to be in the news.
Last year it was a political and economic crisis, now it is an issue of migration, which is not only a Greek problem but a worldwide one. People will have seen images in the news of lifejackets and dinghies on the beaches of Greece, whilst many border crossings have camps and large numbers of stranded migrants.

Migrants Mediterranean16x9
Amidst all this tragedy we can often hear of heart warming stories of the local Greeks giving their time, and support to help in these terrible circumstances. A true gesture of “philoxenia” or ‘friendship to strangers” which is one of the most hallowed concepts in the rules of Greek hospitality. It is amazing that whilst the country has suffered one of the greatest depressions of modern times, the people still have the ability to help others less fortunate than themselves. Many of you who have travelled to Greece before will have experienced this “philoxenia” be it from a friendly taxi driver or the local shepherd offering you some of his cheese and wine!

The Ionian Islands are in Western Greece and are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the country. They are all very green with dramatic landscapes and surrounded by azure waters. Due to their geographic positioning they have remained untouched by the migrant crisis that has deeply affected islands such as Lesvos, Samos and Kos, which are situated in Eastern Greece, close to Turkey. Luckily, the general economic situation has calmed, and Greece has escaped any of the unrest and violence that has affected other regions. Following a booming year of tourism in 2015 attitudes remain positive.

Kefalonia is the largest island in the Ionian and over the years has escaped from the mass tourism movement. Dotted around the island you can find boutique hotels, apartments and stunning villas including the award winning Vassaliki Naturist Club.

Vassaliki Villa, Kefalonia, Greece 13

Vassaliki now in its 10th year is as popular as ever so we have increased our number of rooms by opening up a new naturist villa only a short walk from the club.  The villa is perfect for those who want complete relaxation, it has four ensuite bedrooms and the onsite staff will be on hand to offer complimentary breakfast each morning as well as free tea and coffee throughout the day. All the guests at the villa will also benefit from free use of all the facilities at Vassaliki Naturist Club.

Thanks to Jamie Sterling at http://www.ipsgreece.com for the use of some of his text.

New Year Newsletter.

February 2, 2016 by Mark Taylor

Happy New Year to you all! I know it seems such a long time ago when the new year came in, but we have been so busy at Vassaliki and we feel that time is flying so fast.  In fact Samantha and I have already had to book all our return travel to Greece and we are now busy getting all the purchasing done for the summer.

The summer of 2016 is already looking like it’s going to be busy with some periods now fully booked and others very close to full.  So if you do plan a trip to us you need to act fast, as Samantha is busy trying to fit everyone in. Don’t forget we still have rooms available in June and July in the gorgeous Vassaliki Villa.

As I write the newsletter we are both still recovering from the amazing time we had at the Vassaliki Reunion Weekend in Bournemouth. I have a small article with a few pictures of the event later in the newsletter.

We also have below some information about our new booking system, new wellness week and our new raffle, the prize for which is a free weeks holiday!

Enjoy and see you soon!

Loyalty Cards and New Vassaliki Raffle

Back in 2013 we gave out a customer loyalty card to all our guests as they left the resort. Every week they stayed they received a stamp on the card, collect five stamps and we gave you a free weeks stay at Vassaliki.

rewardcardWell this promotion was an amazing success and many people took advantage of the deal straight away, so they have received or booked their free week already. All good things have to come to an end and this promotion finishes on October 31st 2017 after which no more stamps will be given out.  Your free week then must be used by the end of October 2018. All the loyalty cards become invalid after this date so if you have a card with stamps on it, you need to book your free week soon.

New Raffle for 2016!  But don’t panic we have a new deal and promotion for everyone. Starting this summer all guests will receive a free raffle ticket for every €100 spent onsite. This includes bar, food, excursions and merchandise. So the more you drink… the better your chance of winning! And after what I saw at the reunion weekend there is going to be a lot of competition!

The winning ticket will be drawn at the end of the season and the winner will be contacted directly.

New Booking System – now you can book online if you want!!!

After several attempts to set up a new booking system for the resort we have finally successfully managed to launch a brand new online system with NewBook.

It has been a huge job with Samantha and I working into the night trying to get all the data from the old system to the new. We had over 2500 records to move over. If you have a booking for this coming summer (2016) you should have received an email about your booking for you to check and ensure all the details are correct.

We are really happy with the progress of the set up and the team at NewBook eManagment have been amazing. After our terrible experience with Hotelogix and E21 Software we could not have asked for a better service from NewBook.

Special Discount in May To Celebrate Our New Online Booking System

30%discountSo to celebrate the launch of our new system, we have a special offer available for the month of February only.  If you book online through our new system, a stay at Vassaliki from May 7th to May 28th, we will offer you an amazing 30% discount on the start of summer prices. That is an incredible saving of nearly €60 per night compared to our standard rates.

All you need to do is to put the code ‘NEWBOOK2016’ into the ‘redeem discount code’ field and the discount will be automatically applied.

easyjet
We have found some amazing flight prices for May from the UK with RyanAir (£78 return 9th May), Thomas Cook (£135 return 10th May), Norwegian (£150 return 7th May) and Easyjet (£188 return 10th May), plus from Amsterdam with Tui (€279 return 9th May) and Transavia (€280 return 13th May).  These prices are per person and were found on 28th January. Remember you have to pay extra for luggage or you can just travel light with a small carry on case.

With our discount and great flight prices, this adds up to a cheap holiday at what I think is the most beautiful time to visit our luscious green island.

Wellness and Wellbeing Week – 6th to 14th October 2016

The Reunion – What a party!!!!

Our guests started arriving at the Queen Hotel and Spa in Bournemouth from lunch time on Friday 22nd of January. Most tended to head towards the hotel bar after checking in to their newly refurbished room. There was lots of laughter and reminiscing between guests, plus this year the hotel offered us more spa and pool time, so many people headed down to the spa for a nude swim, sauna or Jacuzzi.

This year’s Friday night meal was supplied by the hotel in the form of a Mediterranean BBQ buffet. The food was delicious and the guests were able to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine and some light entertainment from a very talented young guitarist Lee Rasdall-Dove. Of course being a Vassaliki event, some guests just could not resist the opportunity for a quick dance round the buffet table.

Saturday was a dry and partly sunny day so many guests went for a walk after breakfast along the seafront and into the town of Bournemouth. Throughout the day, guests used the nude spa and pool with some enjoying a massage or treatment.

But what we all came to Bournemouth for was the Saturday night gala dinner! This year we upped the stakes and everyone dressed in their finest formal evening wear. Even Samantha managed to peel me out my shorts and tee shirt and into a dinner jacket, waist coat and bow tie!!

We decided this year to have a fun casino from our friends Garry & Isabelle at Viva Las Vegas. All the guests were given fun money to spend on the Roulette and Black Jack tables. This seemed to be a great success with most people having a dabble.

The entertainment did not stop there, Jason Taylor (my brother) once again got the party started with his range of swing and popular music. This year Jason was joined by fellow singer Peter Snipp for his second set and the pair took the roof off the room with an amazing operatic battle which included raucous audience participation.

The evening was rounded off by the ever popular band “The Unusual Suspects”. We have had the same band for all our reunions and once again they rocked the room. The dance floor was full before they even finished the first verse of the opening song.

The evening ended all too soon with “Hey Jude” (which has become a tradition!)  Everyone locked arms in a giant circle with the bands singer, brass section and lead guitar player in the middle and everyone singing their hearts out.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the weekend, as requested on the Sunday morning by nearly everyone, we promise we will do it all again in 2018. See you there!

During the weekend one of our regular guests was on hand with her new range of skin products. Sam Devlin was very generous and gave all our guests a range of samples to try. Sam is hoping to offer this range of natural products to the naturist market. She also has business opportunities open to anyone who would like to join her team. We really like the sun cream range and we hope to be able to offer them at the resort next summer. gelskincare
